I’ve seen so many Mother’s Day gif sets. But I wanted to make a gifset dedicated to the girl who didn’t choose to become a mother, but had to. Nani. She was the best mother she could be to Lilo, and the best sister too.
She didn’t just lose her mother and father, with all the things she was doing wrong, she felt like she was losing her sister too.

Nani, hardly gets recognition, and throughout the entire film she did everything she could and it seemed like the odds were against her. So, appreciation for Nani, as she’s one of the strongest, most realistic & realistic looking Disney character ever.

Everything about this film makes me weep like a weepy weeping child.

Why aren't more people freaking out about the new Venezuelan labor law?

See this picture? This comes from a town in Canada where a 24 pack of water bottles is 104 dollars and formula milk for a baby is priced at 55 dollars a pack. What’s more, a pack of diapers is 95 dollars and one head of lettuce is 26 dollars. Inuit people are starving in a country known for it’s generosity.

If you don’t believe this is true, you can find more images like this here. This is the only grocery store these people have in their small towns, and many people are going hungry & elderly are dying faster.

You’ll send aid to foreign children that are starving, so why won’t you pay a little extra to feed the people in your own country who work hard & still can’t afford the prices for healthy food for their families?

Please reblog this photo to raise awareness that even in our own countries people are starving, join the movement and show the government that we won’t sit by and watch people starve.

Children in a first world country are getting sick & starving, and nobody is even aware it’s happening. You can let people know by reblogging and showing you care. People I am close to, my friends and future in-laws are going through this.

This much is clear:

Despite being an incredibly common surname, in the United States, Khan is a racialized last name and those who carry it suffer from additional, insulting, stigma and scrutiny.

There is no shortage of talented actors of South Asian descent whether from within the United States, from the UK, or Bollywood—and many of them even have the last name of Khan.

With Star Trek Into Darkness the name “Khan” is once again stigmatized as antagonistic, but the actors named Khan, the Khans of the world, and those who look like Khans once again have no voice about how they are represented in American media.

If you’re an award winning actor named Khan, you will still get stopped and humiliated at the airport. When that rare character in American media finally shows up sharing your name, he will be played by a white British man. That actor will wear your name for one movie and sneer and strut to great critical acclaim. You will wear your racialized name, your skin color, and hope you don’t get detained another time.

The first immigrants to Europe arrived thousands of years ago from central Asia. Most pre-contact Europeans lived together in small villages. Because the continent was very crowded, their lives were ruled by strict hierarchies within the family and outside it to control resources. Europe was highly multi-ethnic, and most tribes were ruled by hereditary leaders who commanded the majority “commoners.” These groups were engaged in near constant warfare.

Pre-contact Europeans wore clothing made of natural materials such as animal skin and plant and animal-based textiles. Women wore long dresses and covered their hair, and men wore tunics and leggings. Both men and women liked to wear jewelry made from precious stones and metals as a sign of status. Before contact, Europeans had very poor diets. Most people were farmers and grew wheat and vegetables and raised cows and sheep to eat. They rarely washed themselves, and had many diseases because they often let their animals live with them. Religion infused every part of Europeans’ lives.

Europeans believed in one supreme deity, a father figure, who they believed was made of three parts, and they particularly worshiped the deity’s son. They claimed that their god had given humans domination over the earth. They built elaborate temples to him and performed ceremonies in which they ate crackers and drank wine and believed it was the body and blood of their god, who would provide them with entrance into a wondrous afterlife called heaven when they died. Many wars were fought over disagreements about the details of this religion, each group believing their interpretation was the right one that should be spread across the land.

Now imagine that is part of a textbook that has entire chapters on the Mississippian polities of the 1200s and a detailed account of the diplomatic situation of the southeastern provinces in the 1400s and 1500s, an enormous section that goes through the history of the rise of the Triple Alliance in Mexico and goes through the rule of each tlatoani and their policies, the heritage of Teotihuacan and its legacy in later Mesoamerican politics, elaborate descriptions of the trade routes that connected and drove various nations in North America. Long explanations of the rise of various religious movements such as the calumet ceremony and Midewiwin, and how they affected political agendas and artistic trends. Pages and pages and pages going through the past thousand years of American history century by century.

And these three paragraphs are the only mention of European history before the year 1500.

I wish people wouldn’t just see me as the Asian girl who beats everyone up, or the Asian girl with no emotion. People see Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock in a romantic comedy, but not me. You add race to it, and it became, ‘Well she’s too Asian’, or ‘She’s too American’. I kind of got pushed out of both categories. It’s a very strange place to be. You’re not Asian enough and then you’re not American enough.

Black people get typecast as an extremely specific type of villain - they’re thugs, brutish and animalistic. South Asian actors are similarly typecast as scary oppressive (usually coded Muslim) terrorists.

But when your villain is of the superhuman archetype? When they’re brooding antiheroes, when they’re nuanced, when they’re multi-faceted?

They’re white.

what they meant: i've seen a canon queer ship exactly zero times in my entire life of consuming media, but the idea that people could express their desire to see lgbtq representation makes me very uncomfortable because i'm the itchy rash on the inside of an old man's dirty asshole, so you shouldn't even talk about being queer around me or i'll cry very loudly about being oppressed by fan art.
what else they could mean: I'm tired of people devaluing the meaning of friendship, and wouldn't mind it so much if I could find more examples of them being friends, or of the two characters having fanfics and fanart outside of them being romantic partners because they can have their own life outside of romance or this one romantic partner. I fully support gay couples in cannon, but the fandom can be overwhelming at this point.

What else they could mean: But this only really applies to the pretty white dudes because apparently gay people of color don't exist nor could they ever be interpreted as such. Also, the fact that some shows queer bait their audiences doesn't help.

Edit: after posting this, I received an e-mail from Aunty M’s, claiming that I had misunderstood their e-mail (specifically the statement “we are cancelling your invoices and terminating your contract”, which, ok, whatever) and that they will pay me within the next 30 days. So they hve 30 days to pay me. I’m hoping that they will.

I found Auntie M’s Children’s Book Publishers through tumblr channels so I know they are advertising for illustrators on tumblr.

They had me sign a contract which gave them an uncomfortable amount of authority over my work, but I signed it anyway because I thought it would work out.

They had me produce a series of illustrations, in black and white and in colour, that were outside of the style and mediums of work of mine that I had shown them previously. I submitted all the work by the deadlines, and was given no editorial feedback except a brief “it looks good”, despite asking if any changes needed to be made. I was then promised that I would be paid when they received a hard disk with the illustrations on it by mail, which I sent.

After sending them the hard copies, I got an e-mail saying that they were not satisfied with my work for them, and would be terminating my contract and not paying me for the illustrations they had commissioned me for.

If I thought that their complaints were valid, that would be one thing - if they had told me when seeing the initial drafts of the illustrations that anything needed to be changed, or given me any feedback, or you know, not promised me payment after seeing pdf’s of the finished illustrations, I’d figure whatever, they didn’t like it, I’ll do better next time - but it seems really clear to me that the OK was given for the use of my work, and then a contractual loophole was exercised in order to not pay me.

They owe me 300 dollars. I am a freelancer. 300 dollars is a lot of money to me. I was in a tight financial spot before this, and it just got 300 dollars tighter. Illustrators, DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU. if you see a call from an Auntie M’s Children’s Book Publisher, do not submit your work. Stick with publishers who treat their illustrators with the professional respect and courtesy we deserve as artists, and who will actually, you know, pay you.

It is not the droid you are looking for. It does not mean “causing or tending to cause addiction”.

The “-ing” suffix indicates that addicting would turn the word “addict” into an action or process. ”Addicting” would be “the process of becoming addicted”. Basically: Hey I am addicting myself to this game so hard right now. I am in the process of becoming addicted to it.

The “-ive” suffix indicates that addictive would turn the word “addict” into a word that expresses tendency, connection, or function. IE: This game is addictive. Its sole purpose is to make me addicted to it. It tends to make me feel addiction. I am becoming addicted to it.

Which is what most people mean.

When they say something is addicting.

But it is not what they’re saying at all.

Ahaha I try not to mind too much because language is always changing and evolving etc etc English is silly anyway blah blah - but it also reminds me of preforming, omg. I have seen so many people who preform, every time I do now I just read it out aloud and giggle.
