Green Lantern WIP by *dixey

She never uploaded the final version of this, but here’s a WIP of a picture I commissioned Dixey way back when the American dollar was INSANE and I was jsut starting to collect Kyle comics :) I found her cause she was a Kyle fan too- It’s always awesome to commission characters the artist is a fan of ^^

OMFG Dixey was one of my first online friends I’d made because we were both fans of the 1990’s Young Justice comic and I think we kinda met on a message board forum? Or a fanartist Yahoo mailing list group ahahah.  And we were also artists working on this dude’s online comic and we would email each other to kvetch and complain ahahahah.  

We even met and road-tripped from Michigan to Illinois, to the Chicago Wizard Con, I think. In like 1999 or something, wow.

Talk about a blast from the past.  Come to think of it, I’ll be she’s the reason why I became a fan of Kyle Rayner too.

Because this is the Kyle’s “Superman: The Animated Series” version.

In this early version, he’s is a composite character of Kyle and Hal.

Good thing that the creators showed all theim later, but I want more Kyle in animations! And Guy!

OMG time to nerd out and add that they made him into a composite character of all the male Earth Lanterns: he has the name and personality of Kyle (as well as being an artist); he looks like Hal (brown hair), he played football in college like Guy, and his GL uniform is John’s.

It’s kind of cute, idk. I know ideally it would be neat to have a just-Kyle kinda Kyle character, but I did think it was cute the way they incorporated all the dude Earth Lanterns into one character like this, and that it was Kyle in the end.

I did like this episode, it was enjoyable! Clark is so annoyed with the Guardians, but so polite, ahaha. And seeing Clark and Kyle fighting together got me all gushy 90’s JLA feels. XD

Hal Jordan & Kyle Rayner - Adventures!!

It seems a lot of comicbook GL fans of Kyle Rayner perceive his GL career beginning with the Green Lantern Corps, and/or specifically as Guy Gardner’s Lantern partner.  While it’s true that Guy was present throughout all of Kyle’s Green Lantern run, him and Kyle were not immediate BFFs, not at all. In fact Guy was (imo) less relevant to Kyle’s initial personal and Lantern growth than John, Alan, Hal and especially Jenny.  And Guy was closest to John. Their friendship really only blossomed post-Sinestro Corps War in the GLC.  

That means over fifteen years of canon for Kyle, pre-GLC.  Comic-timelinewise, that’s approx 6 - 10 years that Kyle was an independent, solitary GL, and he was a darn good one. Maybe even a bit Marty Stu…but that’s a debate for another day. ;D

So! Specifically, Kyle and Hal have a fairly long history together that GL fans might not be familiar with. I wanted to share!
